It's that time of year again. A time to make a list of the things we want for Christmas, reflect on the year we have had, the blessings in our life, but also a reminder to give to those less fortunate-remembering the TRUE meaning of Christmas. This year we are starting a new tradition and I want to start teaching Alexa that it isn't about how many presents under the tree have your name on them, because lets face it, she still has NO idea what Christmas is. My hope is that by showing her early to help those less fortunate than she is, that she grows up wanting to help others.
So, this year, we are each buying for 1 other person in the family and then as family have adopted a family in need from the Greene Country Children's services and will be fulfilling their wish list. I want to teach Alexa that things aren't what make us happy, its having the love and support of family that truly brings the most happiness. For me, seeing Alexa laugh, smile and be the loving little girl that she is brings more happiness than any purse, pair of shoes or piece of jewelry has or ever will bring me. My hope is that if we can start teaching her before she is old enough to remember, we will have traditions that will help her grow up thinking of others first, rather than herself.
